Alan worked in inner city secondary schools in Leeds progressing to Deputy Headteacher before leading a multi- agency team supporting schools/parents on attendance and behaviour issues. He completed his teaching career as a Headteacher and successfully took the Leeds Pupil Referral Unit out of Special Measures in record time for a Leeds school.
On retirement in 2011 he was invited to join School Partnership Trust Academies Group as an Inclusion Consultant. He was subsequently employed by Delta Academies Trust when they took over the management of SPTA.
His involvement with EduCCate came as a result of his assistance with the brokering of the energy contract for all 47 Delta Academies with Blue Castle Energy Ltd. Following the lockdown and retirement from consultancy he offered to help the CEO to look for ways to reduce the carbon footprint of the Trust. An article in Linkedin written by Melanie Harwood struck a chord and contact was made. The aims of EduCCate and Blue Castle were perfectly aligned and as a result he was made Non Executive Director of Blue Castle Energy Limited to help build the partnership with EduCCate and advise on education links. The partnership between EduCCate and Blue Castle will focus on energy cost reduction, green energy, green secure cloud based hosting/ data storage with Positive Internet, renewable energy alternatives, energy audits, carbon reduction monitoring, contribution to curriculum content for EduCCate, waste audits, and revenue schemes to fund EduCCate training/award programmes.
Blue Castle will also look to assist EduCCate Global in its ambition to spread their carbon literacy programme internationally and offer its expertise/framework to other countries. This will enable each country or consortium to set up the practical processes that reduce the carbon footprint for schools, homes and communities.
