Conrad Bourne

Director for Social Mobility - The Mercian Trust

For one day per week I am the Deputy Regional Lead for Whole School SEND in the West Midlands. Whole School SEND is a consortium of individuals, schools and other organisations who are committed to improving outcomes for children and young people with SEND. This has been a privileged role for me in that I work across school and local authority networks in partnership with some fantastic and dedicated professionals all focussed on improving the outcomes for some of our most vulnerable learners.

For the remainder of my week I’m the Director for Social Mobility with The Mercian Trust.  I’ve been fortunate to have a varied professional career in and outside of Teaching. I came to teaching slightly later having started my working life as an engineer.  My teaching career has included mainstream, pupil referral unit and senior leadership. In the middle of all that I ran a business for four years. My professional roles have included subject leader, SENCo, Pupil Premium lead, Specialist Teacher (SpLD Dyslexia) and assessor. With my current role, my focus has been on building social, cultural and academic capital for vulnerable and disadvantaged learners and creating new networks to improve capacity and support the needs of those pupils.
