Dr Jos Boys is Director, Learning Environments Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Centre (LEEDIC) and Programme Lead, MSc Learning Environments at The Bartlett Faculty of Built Environment UCL. She specializes in the design of university learning spaces. Her background is in architecture and urban planning and she has written extensively on the complex and often contested inter-relationships between pedagogic methods, institutional policy and strategies, facilities planning and learning space design. Publications include Building Better Universities; Strategies, Spaces, Technologies (Routledge 2014) and “Towards Creative Learning Spaces: re-thinking the architecture of post-compulsory education” (Routledge 2010). She also co-edited – with Anne Boddington – Reshaping Learning; a Critical Reader. The Future of Learning Spaces in Post-Compulsory Education (Ashgate 2011), exploring the cross-disciplinary complexities of conceptualising, planning, using and managing spaces for learning.
Jos has also undertaken considerable research and consultancy in this field, including at the University of Brighton UK, University of Northumbria UK, University of Calgary Canada, RMIT Vietnam, and the University of New South Wales (UNSW), Sydney Australia. Current research and consultancy focuses on design for inclusive learning, both within the academy and beyond it.
