Jan is a member of the National Independent Safeguarding Board for Wales and an Independent Board Member of a Welsh NHS Trust. Jan Chairs the Centre for Expertise on Child Sexual Abuse a Home Office funded UK wide hub of knowledge and research on CSA. Jan is a member of the UK Advisory Board on Contextual Safeguarding. In 2004 she received an OBE for the innovation of the MARAC process and the development of the Independent Domestic Abuse Advocate model which has transformed how we deliver protection and safety to this high risk group across the UK. In 2010 she received the First Ministers Award for her work in establishing the Cardiff Sexual Assault Centre. Jan has had many different roles including as Assistant Police and Crime Commissioner for the South Wales Police, the fourth largest Policing Force in the UK and as Programme Director for the DfE UK wide improvement programme for Serious Case Reviews.
In her consultancy roles Jan was part of the team that reviewed the non-recent Child Sex abuse at Chelsea Football Club and undertaken a review from the 1920’s to the present day for IICSA on the Archdiocese of Birmingham. Jan is the author of many child safeguarding and Domestic Homicide Reviews.
