Jane Hough is a policy adviser at the Department for Education, in the Teacher Wellbeing, Workload and Impact on Schools Team. Jane joined the Department in 2012 after a 22-year teaching career in inner-London schools, including four years as an advisory teacher, and subsequently heading up the GTCE’s CPD network ‘Connect’. She taught English as an Additional Language and English, and led whole school policy on language, assessment and Initial Teacher Training as a member of the Senior Leadership team. Her work at the Department includes the National Curriculum Review in English and modern foreign languages. Jane leads on the DfE programme of support to schools to help reduce workload. This includes working with a range of schools to co-create the school workload reduction toolkit and to embed effective school-led practice in relation to marking, planning and data management as well as other areas which create workload pressures.
