Owen graduated the University of Leicester with a degree in Economics and a Masters in History, followed by three years as an officer within the National Union of Students. He joined HOPE not hate, the UK’s leading anti-fascist organisation, in 2012 originally as a community organiser sent into local communities in the West Midlands to counter neo-nazi activities. This lead to heading up a national project to offer a positive solution to hate in local communities across England and Wales in 2014 before being tasked with setting up the charity’s education and training departments in 2016.
Owen now runs a UK wide school programme that educates over 20,000 pupils per year and also published the safeguarding book “Signs of Hate” in 2021. He regularly lectures on the modern threat of the extreme right and the steps the education sector needs to take to counter it.
