Phil Joined BET in 2010 having worked at the BBC and Boots plc. His passion is for building an education system that enables students to achieve outstanding grades and be ‘game changers’, innovators and leaders.
Phil is known for his commitment to the pursuit of excellence in teaching and learning. He is responsible for BET’s cross-trust curriculum and assessments and has driven major BET projects including designing a new STEM curriculum in partnership with industry. Named STEM Leader of the Year in 2013, Phil is a Sinnott fellow and actively engaged in several key research projects across the Trust.
Phil believes outdoor learning is central to student development and is as likely to be found up mountains with students as he is in classrooms across the Trust. He has led ambitious student expeditions to locations such as Greenland, the remote Himalayas and Kyrgyzstan. he has also been involved in research into the impact of the outdoors in conjunction with the Universities of Kent and Lancaster, as well as the Frederick Soddy Trust. A fellow of the Royal Geographic Society, Phil sits on its Education Committee Data Advisory Board. He is also a Winston Churchill Fellow
