Emeritus Professor Karen Starr, PhD commenced as Inaugural Chair, School Leadership and Development at Deakin University in 2006. Prior to this she served as school Principal in South Australia and Victoria and was Chief Writer of South Australia’s Curriculum, Standards and Accountability Framework. Karen is an established author and speaks regularly at international and national conferences. Her most recent book is Education policy, neoliberalism and leadership practice: A critical analysis (2019, Routledge). Karen developed Deakin University’s Education Business Leadership course for which she was granted a Vice Chancellor’s Award for Teaching Excellence and currently serves as international advisor to the Association of School Business Officials International. In 2017 she received the Hedley Beare Educator of the Year Award from the Australian Council for Educational Leaders (Vic).
