Educated at Fairfax School in Sutton Coldfield, then Coventry College of Education and Warwick and later Birmingham Universities, Sue began her teaching career as a PE teacher in 1976.She soon moved through the ranks from Head of Department, Head of Year before entering the Senior Leadership team in the mid 90’s. Sue has always had a child centred approach. This plus a love of the great outdoors has seen her involvement in many extra-curricular activities including numerous trips to Africa to visit a partner school.
Sue became a DSL in 1996 and has worked hard to support student welfare. In the mid 2000’s Sue’s career took an usual turn as she entered the world of early years and in particular the 5 Children’s Centres located in Sutton Coldfield.
When these closed over a decade later Sue moved into safeguarding role for a multi academy trust drawing on her experience of working with those between 9 months to 19 years over a number of years. Fascinated by the issues surrounding the Prevent agenda Sue completed her PG Cert at Derby University in Understanding Terrorism which has enabled her to gain a much deeper understanding of these safeguarding issues.
Sue has had the privileged to work across a range of schools all in different contexts and all with exceptionally skilled and committed DSL’s. Honoured by the Queen with an MBE in 2019 for services to Education we are proud to say that Sue’s work is involved with all of our futures!
